Seminar Giving Back

The joy of giving; this is what the holidays are all about. ThunderRidge is giving back in so many ways. Seminars are collecting canned goods, diapers, and some even adopting families.

This year there are multiple seminar classes adopting young families including Mr. Dowling, “I surveyed my seminar and presented options for not only ‘getting’, but ‘giving’ for the holidays. Adopting a family won the vote.”

The seminars adopting families will donate items that fulfill the family’s Christmas wish list. Dowling is going about the donation process a little differently, “I’m asking for a $10 donation from my seminar kids. We will then go to Target as a group and spend approximately $200 on items the church said our 4 adoptees need.”

Knowing that the students here at TR are wanting to give back to the community is inspiring. Giving back is not just a seasonal thing, The Growl challenges you to pay it forward and contribute to the community throughout the entire year.

The Growl has compiled a list of all things seminars here at TR are doing to give back to the community.

Parsons - We are collecting canned goods for the Food Bank of the Rockies.

Worden - We are collecting toys Toys for Tots campaign.

Waskey - We are collecting socks for the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless.

Bennett - We are going to adopt a teen mom and her kids.

Sullivan - One of our seminar student’s lost his father this year before Fall Break. We have decided to do the 12 nights of Christmas for his family. Each night leading up to Christmas we are dropping something off at his door for him and his family. Meals, gifts, cards, etc.

Harhigh - We are sponsoring a family of 3 for the holidays! Denver Rescue Mission is full for the year already (which is kinda cool!) so we are going through Denver Human Services.

Murphy - We are also adopting a family. One of my students has access to an Angel Tree at her church so she is bringing us a family to work with. Each student will take a role in the process and contribute in the way that they feel most comfortable with.

Wohlust - Students in my Senior Seminar plan to contact the Gathering Place in Denver. On certain days, they take fresh produce donations. Our backup plan is collecting cans and packaged items for a local food/charity drive.

Dowling - We're adopting a family!

Larsen - My Seminar has decided to collect canned goods for the Food Bank of the Rockies too! Let me know If I can also help with the transportation of cans.

White - We are sponsoring a family of 3 for the holidays! Denver Rescue Mission is full for the year already (which is kinda cool!) so we are going through Denver Human Services.

Wilson - My Seminar is collecting coats for the Homeless.

Ormiston - Our response is diapers. Our church supports a "diaper depot," providing diapers for homeless and struggling parents. This removes the choice of food vs. diapers on a limited income, and availability of diapers can allow a mom to put her kids in daycare so she can earn a living.
